Greer Garson was was spotted on the British stage and was immediately signed to an MGM contract in the states, and she earned an Academy Award for her very first film, Good-bye Mr. Chips (1939).  She would eventually be nominated for an unprecedented total of nine Academy Awards, including the award for her role in Mrs. Miniver (1942).  In a publicity photo taken early in her career, she is seen wearing a precious canary diamond and gold ring.
