Ingrid Bergman was born in Stockholm, Sweden on August 29, 1915. As a little girl she had dreams of becoming an actress and soon enrolled in the Swedish Royal Theater. She soon discovered the stage was not for her and pursued a film career. In 1936 she appeared in the Swedish version of INTERMEZZO and got spotted by David O. Selznick, the head of MGM. She and the story got signed immediately and "Sweden's illustrious gift to Hollywood" was on her way. In the American remake of INTERMEZZO Ingrid Bergman came of age. A string of American classics including CASABLANCA, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, GASLIGHT and BELLS OF ST. MARY'S solidified Ms. Bergman's place alongside Hollywood's royalty.
